How to Make a Frontcountry Campsite Reservation on Recreation.gov
Step-by-step Directions
These directions pertain to Frontcountry camping.
We also offer instructions for Backcountry camping and canoe rental permits, as well as houseboat permits.
- Go to the Voyageurs National Park Camping Permits page (Google Chrome is the recommended internet browser for making reservations and printing permits).
- In the upper right corner, either Log In to your account or click on Sign Up to create an account.
- Click through the tabs to understand the different types of camping in Voyageurs National Park and to view important need-to-know camping information.
- When ready to search for a campsite, click on Build Itinerary.
- At the top of the screen, enter Group Size (required). Use search features to narrow down results (optional) by selecting Campsite Type or entering a specific lake or campsite name in the search box.
- Select the starting date for your trip from the calendar.
- Scroll through the list of campsites or use the map feature on the right to find the site you would like to reserve.
- Select the appropriate boxes for your trip dates, from your arrival date to your departure date. If you select the wrong dates, click on the red X or switch to itinerary view on the right of the screen to delete those dates from your itinerary.
- Click on Add to Cart at the bottom of the screen.
- Make sure itinerary and cost listed on the right are correct and fill out requested information on left.
- Read and agree to important information at the bottom of the page. Be sure to watch the required camping video.
- Click on Proceed to Cart, or select Continue Shopping to add more dates to your itinerary.
- Make sure order summary is correct and click on Proceed to Payment.
- Fill out payment information and click on Next.
- Review and confirm information and click on Continue. Your order is now complete.
- Print your permit within five days of your trip. It is required to have a printed copy of your permit when camping in the park. To print your permit, log into your recreation.gov account, select Reservations from the main menu and click on the Print Permit button for the appropriate trip (you will not be able to click on this button until 5 days before your trip). If visitor centers are closed when you arrive, there will be no place to print your permit once you've arrived.
- Upon reaching your site, place the permit inside the display box attached to the bear locker. In the backcountry and at primitive sites, keep the permit with you.
