Meriwether Lewis planned and packed for the expedition. The activity sheet has the students match some of the supplies Lewis brought with what type of supplies they were. The students also write about how they think planning may have helped the expedition.

This activity focuses on the health effects of various sounds. Participants visit any site where both natural and man-made sounds are present. The facilitator segues into a group discussion of the variety of sounds that are present. Participants consider their own perceptions of sound and learn to identify sounds that can benefit the health of humans, then investigate how noise pollution hinders communication and discuss ways to improve or preserve the natural soundscape. Freedom Suit: Dred Scott v. Irene Emerson

1846, an enslaved couple named Dred and Harriet Scott sued for their freedom at the St. Louis Courthouse, a historic courthouse managed by the National Park Service at Gateway Arch National Park and referred to as the "Old Courthouse." In this mock trial, students learn about the second trial the Scotts undertook at the courthouse in 1850. During this case, the court declared Dred Scott to be a free man. How will students interpret the case?
