Many settlers traveled West in the 1800s for adventure, opportunity, and wealth. One of the most famous explorers of early nineteenth century was John Colter. A friend of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, Colter traveled with the Corps of Discovery from 1803 to 1806 and later became the first white American to travel through the lands that comprise Yellowstone National Park today. Colter became known as a moutain man and daring adventurer in his day.

In this traveling trunk, students will learn about Colter's seasonal travels, trapping adventures, and cherished personal belongings.

Traveling trunks are loaned for approximately two weeks. The fee for trunks shipped to Missouri and Illinois is $35.00 per trunk. Trunks shipped to other continental states cost $45.00 per trunk. Trunks shipped to Alaska and Hawaii will incur an extra charge. The fee covers shipping to and from your location and insurance.

Trunks are shipped the first week of the month by United Parcel Service; arriving by the eighth of the month. Trunks must be repacked and ready for UPS pick-up no later than the 22nd of the month. Gateway Arch National Park provides return labels for pick-up. Trunk reservations must be made 30 days in advance.
