In this first part of a study of leaves, students will learn to differentiate leaves from different plants, shrubs & trees by looking at attributes including leaf shape, edges and arrangement. Students will become familiar with these attributes as they first sort, then hunt for and draw a variety of leaves.

In these lessons, students investigate how energy moves through desert ecosystems in the form of heat, light, and sound. Students learn about insulators for heat and how sunscreen works to protect skin from UV light. They use sound to search for birds, and lenses to complete a scavenger hunt. The lesson concludes with a discussion about how too much heat, light, or sound can be harmful.

Pickett's Charge: A Critical Look

Battle, as shown by "Pickett's Charge", was a sad, costly, and frightening experience during which soldiers exhibited many examples of courage, devotion, fighting ability and fear. The Pickett's Charge student education program seeks to personalize the battle by having each student focus on the life and sacrifice of one soldier. By role-playing the soldiers in one regiment involved in the infantry assault, it is hoped that the emotional context of battle is revealed.
