Salinas Pueblo Missions will kick off its B.A.R.K. Ranger Program on March 22nd at 9:30 AM at the Quarai Site. This program educates participants on B.A.R.K. Ranger principles, such as picking up pet waste, keeping pets on a leash, respecting wildlife, and hiking safely. The program is offered throughout the year and can be accessed at four visitor centers.

Strong City, KS - On Saturday, April 27th at 10 a.m., Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is hosting a B.A.R.K. Ranger Day. Bring your four-legged dog on a leash for a hike with a ranger along the Southwind Nature Trail after a brief orientation and presentation about the meaning behind B.A.R.K. Ranger. This ranger-guided hike is designed to encourage responsible ethics when exploring the preserve with your pet and affords the opportunity to earn a B.A.R.K. Ranger pendant, while supplies last.

Rock Creek Park reminds visitors to keep pets on a leash

On Sunday, May 14, an off-leash dog attacked a wild beaver in Rock Creek Park near Boulder Bridge. Due to the severity of its injuries, the beaver was euthanized. The National Park Service (NPS) reminds visitors that dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet in Rock Creek Park and other local national parks at all times—it's the law.

Celebrate International Dog Day at Petrified Forest National Park. Dogs and their humans can now enjoy some quality time together at the Petrified Fur-Rest Bark Park. The new dog park, located near the Painted Desert Visitor Center off Interstate 40, was built with the help of Petrified Forest maintenance staff, Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) participants and a local Girl Scout.

On July 8th, 2022, a dog visiting Miners Castle jumped over the railing at the lower overlook and fell straight down the cliff to a ledge 25-30 feet below. Park rangers and a volunteer from the Superior High Angle Rescue Professionals (SHARP) team were able to rescue the dog from this steep and complicated section of the Lake Superior shoreline. The dog was returned to his family shortly after the rescue.
