Kent State University Department of Geology
Kent State University (Ohio) is an optimal setting in which to study Geology and Paleontology! KSU offers three different Bachelor’s degrees in geology, each tailored to different career goals, including our new Environmental Geology Concentration for the B.S. The Minor in Geology is very flexible, allowing students to tailor the program to specific needs and goals. The Department also offers an M.S. in Geology and a Ph.D. in Applied Geology. Students at the undergraduate and graduate level can study the role of microfossils in determining climate change over the last several thousand to few million years; invertebrate animals like crabs and lobsters; and vertebrates such as mastodons and giant ground sloths with experts in the department. Kent’s setting in the glaciated part of Ohio provides an excellent focal point for field trips to Ice Age microfossil and megafauna localities, microfossil environmental localities, and Paleozoic invertebrate fossil field trip locations for student groups and class trips.

Sul Ross State University
Sul Ross State University, located in the Chihuahuan Desert of mountainous West Texas, is in an ideal locality for geologic studies. The campus, surrounded by the Trans-Pecos volcanic field, is only 20 minutes from the famous Paleozoic sedimentary and structural features of the Marathon Basin, the southern margin of the Permian Basin in the Glass Mountains and only two hours from Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Six Geology faculty teach classes and supervise master's research. The university emphasizes outdoor learning in all fields.
