    On May 8-10, Eisenhower National Historic Site will offer special ranger-guided tours of WWII burial sites in Gettysburg National Cemetery to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day and the end of WWII in Europe. Each program will begin at 5:30 pm at the Taneytown Rd. entrance to the cemetery.

    Join Eisenhower National Historic Site (NHS) staff for our annual World War II Weekend from September 20 to 22. This year’s event theme is 1944, remembering the millions of Americans and Allies in arms who joined together with General Dwight D. Eisenhower in a “great crusade” to fight for freedom over fascism 80 years ago. Park rangers, guest speakers, living historians, and partner organizations will bring the stories and people of 1944 to life through three days of interactive programming and activities for visitors of all ages.

    Join National Park Service staff to commemorate the events of 1943 for Eisenhower National Historic Site’s (NHS) 2023 World War II Weekend event. The theme for this year’s events is “1943: America at War.” The year 1943 saw the American people take park in a global struggle against fascism and tyranny, joining together with their Allies abroad to provide the material, manpower, and leadership needed to fight the Axis powers during WWII. From September 15-17, park rangers, guest speakers, living historians, and partner organizations will bring the stories of 1943 to life through three days of programming and interactive activities for visitors of all ages.

    This July, Eisenhower National Historic Site (NHS) will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice with special events and programming. Known as the ‘Forgotten War’, Korea was the first major conflict of the Cold War impacting the lives of millions. Korea was central to Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 1952 presidential campaign, and his interactions with troops at the front lines of the war in December 1952 heavily influenced his push for an armistice, which took place on July 27, 1953.

    Gettysburg National Military Park staff will commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 2, and 3, with a series of free hikes, walks and talks that discuss, explore, and reflect on this important turning point in the American Civil War. The public is invited to join National Park Service staff throughout the three-day period across the battlefield, in the Gettysburg National Cemetery, and at the Museum and Visitor Center.

    Beginning April 7, 2023, the historic David Wills House will reopen, free of charge, Friday to Sunday, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Effective June 17, 2023, operations will expand to Thursday to Sunday, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Effective August 18, 2023, operations will return to operating Friday to Sunday, from 1 pm to 5 pm. The final day of operations for 2023 will be on November 19, 2023, the 160th Anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. National Park Service Rangers will staff the home with support from Main Street Gettysburg.
