Getting around TownMost of the park, including the Russian Bishop's House, park visitor center, Totem Trail loop, Riverview Trail, and Russian Memorial Trail loop, is an easy walk from downtown Sitka. It takes most people about 10-minutes to walk between the visitor center and Russian Bishop's House. Getting to SitkaSitka is on Baranof Island and can only be reached by air or sea; no roads connect it to the mainland. Visitors can travel to Sitka by scheduled and charter air services, ferry, and cruise ships. By AirDaily jet and air taxi service is available to Sitka's airport. The airport is one mile from downtown Sitka and 1.5 miles from the park. Taxi service is available from the airport. Several local hotels offer pick-up and drop-off service from the airport. By FerrySitka is a port of call for passenger ferries on the Alaska Marine Highway System. Regular service is available to Juneau and other Inside Passage destinations. The ferry terminal is six miles from downtown Sitka at the end of Halibut Point Road near Starrigavan and the Old Sitka Historical Site. Taxi service is available from the ferry terminal. By Cruise ShipMany cruise ships schedule stops in Sitka. Depending on their size, ships may dock at the cruise terminal seven miles from downtown Sitka, at one of the harbors in downtown Sitka, or anchor offshore and tender passengers ashore in downtown Sitka. Check with individual cruise lines to find out where they disembark passengers and how they transport visitors to the park. By Private BoatMany visitors arrive each year on their own boats, traveling the Inside Passage. Sitka Harbor Department operates five harbors where visitors can moor their vessels: Crescent Harbor, Sealing Cove, ANB Harbor, Old Thomsen Harbor, and Eliason Harbor.
