SITKA, ALASKA — Sitka National Historical Park’s pit toilets are temporarily closed for the winter season.  The heated bathrooms at the Visitor Center, located 0.2 miles away from the pit toilets, remain open year-round, with flush toilets and running water.

The park’s Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am until 3 pm. The first Saturday of each month, including December 7th and January 4th, the Visitor Center will be closed, and the Russian Bishop’s House will be open instead from 10am until 3pm. Sitka National Historical Park’s trails remain open all year, and winter is a great opportunity to explore the trails in a quiet and peaceful environment.

Currently, the park’s Visitor Center features two temporary exhibits to explore. One exhibit features house posts created and carved by artist Peter Nielsen. These house posts from the 1970s have recently returned to Sitka National Historical Park. The temporary exhibit in the Cultural Center Wing is a local artist spotlight on Maria (Kitka) Guthrie (Kaawagaani Sháa), exploring her work in various mediums.
