Volunteers support the National Park Service in its mission to preserve and protect our national parks. You can volunteer for a day or year-round, on your own or with friends and family. We also have seasonal volunteer positions. The work of talented and committed volunteers help the park fully serve the public and protect this very special place.
Volunteer Opportunities
Trail Ambassadors:
As a Trail Ambassador (TA) your job is simple! Enjoy your walk, wear a smile, and interact with visitors. TA's set their own schedule, wear the uniform, answer visitor questions, take note of trail conditions, and report any concerts to park staff.
Bat Patrol:
Bat Patrol is a citizen science project lead by San Juan Island National Historical Park that monitors bat populations at English Camp. It offers volunteers the knowledge and ability to observe and record bat data elsewhere on the island. This project involves counting bats emerging from a maternity roost from May to October. Surveys begin 1 hour before sunset and are 2 hours long.
Seasonal Visitor Center Docents:
We offer seasonal volunteer positions in the spring, summer, and fall. Volunteers are responsible for providing their own RVs which allows them to live in the park while volunteering at the Visitor Centers. Couples only. Apply at volunteer.gov.
