Donating Objects to the Collections:

Thank you for considering Pipestone National Monument as a potential recipient for your donation.Whether or not your item ultimately suits the museum collection, your thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated.

Every national park site has a committee that reviews potential accessions and a Scope of Collections Statement that informs the types of items that would best fit the collection. This framework ensures that the objects or archives acquired are directly related to the mission of the site and that we have the capacity to properly care for them.

If there are items you would like to donate, you can e-mail us with a request to donate. Please provide images with as much information as possible about your item, and a ranger will respond promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send my items in the mail?
Pipestone National Monument does not accept unsolicited donations that are sent through the mail. Please review the information above and contact us via email.

If I donate my item, will it be put on display?
It is not guaranteed that every item will be displayed to the public. Certain items associated with the cultural practices of this site have great significance to Indigenous Nations all across the country. They will be respected and cared for in the most culturally appropriate manner possible.

Can the park appraise my items for me?
The park cannot provide appraisals for the monetary value of any item. You may find a professional appraiser to perform this service for a fee.

Can I receive a tax deduction for my donation?
It is recommended that you consult your personal attorneys, accountants, and/or the Internal Revenue Service to secure a tax benefit from your donation.
