Online Tour Stop 11- Mary Slocumb’s Ride This Monument was placed here in 1907 by the Moores Creek Monumental Association. It is one of very few monuments dedicated to women of the American Revolution. Mary made a daring ride through the dark and enemy lines to save her husband Ezekiel from being shot at the Battle of Moore Creek Bridge. Mary had a premonition about her husband the night before the battle and rode over 70 miles to save him. Her story is today considered a folktale, but even folktales have some level of truth to them. |
