Boating includes use by all vessels, which the United States Code (1 USC Sec. 4) describes as "every description on of watercraft or other artificial contrivance used, or capable of being used, as a means of transportation on water." The closure serves to protect scenic views at these small and popular lakes and to protect Boiling Springs Lake hydrothermal features. Engines Prohibited on All LakesOnly non-power watercraft may be used on park lakes. Engines or motors of any type are not permitted upon vessels on park waters, regardless of whether they are currently in use for propulsion. The closure serves to preserve of wildlife, limit air and water pollution, and the protect the visitor experience. The hazards of carrying an engine or motor on a vessel, regardless of current use, include hazardous spill situations, and temptation for usage. |
