Discover the Visitor Center

Before you start your adventure, stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Whether you have one hour or one week, rangers and volunteers will help you plan an unforgettable trip. In addition to grabbing maps and brochures, you can get your National Park passport stamp or become a junior ranger.

Stop inside the exhibit room to view a large relief map of the entire park, learn about the animals that make Lake Mead their home and watch the park's award-winning film, "Life in the Desert."

The Western National Parks Association operates the park store from within the visitor center. It's stocked with books about the park and the region; Native American arts, jewelry and crafts; posters; outerwear; postcards and maps. Purchases are tax free and support park educational programs.

 

Park Store

Western National Parks Association (WNPA) is a nonprofit cooperating association of the National Park Service based in Tucson, Arizona. WNPA was founded in 1938 to support the interpretive activities of the National Park Service. WNPA operates bookstores at sixty-six National Park Service sites throughout the western United States, plus an online store with more than 600 educational products. In addition to developing publications, Western National Parks Association supports park research and helps fund programs that make park visits more meaningful.

WNPA's mission is to promote preservation of the national park system and its resources by creating greater public appreciation through education, interpretation and research.

Park Store Hours

The visitor center and park store is open seven-days a week from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Hiking

The visitor center is a starting point for three easy pet-friendly trails.

Take a walk around the visitor center's desert gardens and enjoy views of Lake Mead. There are few benches where you take a break under the mesquite trees to watch for wildlife.

Hike down the small hill to access the Historic Railroad Trail or River Mountains Loop Trail. Both are bicycle and stroller friendly.

Nearby Attractions

The Hoover Dam is just minutes to the south along U.S. Highway 93. Nearby Boulder City has multiple dining, shopping and adventure options.
