Pursuant to 36 CFR 1.5(a), sections of the Claude Moore Colonial Farm area at Turkey Run Park are temporarily closed until further notice. This temporary closure is necessary because the National Park Service needs to ensure visitor safety while it develops a plan for visitor operations in that area. Without an operational plan, visitor and resource protection may be compromised. The closed areas include the market fair area, and all buildings associated with Claude Moore farm. A decision will be made when it is appropriate to re-open the closed areas.
During this time, hiking trails will remain open. The public is permitted to walk the grounds, and enjoy the natural areas of the park. However, all buildings will be closed, and there will not be any interpretive programming, visitor activities and/or services offered.
Reservations for use of the pavilion will not be accepted until further notice. Attached is a map of the area which is associated with this closure.
This closure does not constitute an impaim1ent to park resources, and will not adversely affect the park's natural, natural, aesthetic or cultural values. It does not require significant modification to the resource management objectives. It is also not of a highly controversial nature since the public may access George Washington Memorial Parkway at other points of entry. Accordingly, the National Park Service determines that publication as rulemaking in the Federal Register is unwairnnted under 36 CFR 1.5(c). This is consistent with the legal opinion of the Office of the Solicitor and past judicial adjudications.
Pursuant to 3 6 CFR 1. 7, notice of this temporary closure will be made by signs and fencing of the area and the posting of signs at conspicuous locations. Finally, pursuant to 36 CFR 1.5( c ), this determination is available to the public upon request.
