Hikers' Express - Need to Know

Fall Schedule

September 12, through November 30, 2026

• Departs Bright Angel Lodge at 6 am, 7 am, and 8 am. See below for more details.

Year-round early morning service from Grand Canyon Village to South Kaibab Trailhead.
Note: this is a one-way shuttle. It does not return hikers from South Kaibab Trailhead to the village.

Bus Stops

• Departs Bright Angel Lodge bus stop on the hour
  6 am, 7 am, and 8 am

• Second stop: Backcountry Information Center
  6:10 am, 7:10 am, and 8:10 am

• Third stop: Visitor Center Shuttle Bus Terminal
  6:20 am, 7:20 am, and 8:20 am

• Arrival at South Kaibab Trailhead
  6:30 am, 7:30 am, and 8:30 am

Another Option

Since the road to South Kaibab Trailhead and Yaki Point is closed to private vehicles, access is by park shuttle, on foot, or by bicycle.

• Park in one of the 4 lots at Grand Canyon Visitor Center and take the Kaibab Rim (Orange) shuttle bus from the Visitor Center to the South Kaibab Trailhead.

• This summer, the first Kaibab Rim (Orange) Route bus will be at 5 am; last bus, one hour after sunset.

• From the Visitor Center to the trailhead is only a 9 minute ride.

Three shuttle bus routes are in service from September. 12, through November 30, 2026. Kaibab Rim (Orange) Route, right, travels to S. Kaibab Trailhead, outstanding scenic views at Yaki Point, and Yavapai Geology Museum. Village (Blue) Route, center, connects Visitor Center with lodges, campgrounds, Backcountry Information Center, and Market Plaza (general store and post office). Hermit Road (Red) Route travels a 7-mile scenic road with spectacular overlooks.
