Golden Gate National Recreation Area Announces Availability of the Draft CERCLA Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis Report on the Hawk Hill Nike Radar Site

SAN FRANCISCO—The National Park Service (NPS) announces the availability of the Draft Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) on the Hawk Hill Nike Radar Site. NPS invites public comment on the proposed plan to address environmental contamination at the former military site. Hawk Hill overlooks the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands of Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is within five miles of the Presidio, Sausalito, and Fort Baker. The project site lies within the popular Conzelman road scenic overlook corridor which attracts locals and visitors from all over the world. 

The Administrative Record includes documents that the NPS has used to select a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) response action. The Administrative Record File currently includes the Hazardous Materials Assessment Report, Site Management Plan and other memos and letters associated with the project. The Administrative Record has been updated to include other documents considered in the selection of a cleanup action including the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) report. Once the 30-day comment period is over, NPS will update the Administrative Record to include comments submitted by interested persons and NPS responses to significant comments.

The Draft EE/CA and Administrative Record File Index are also available at the Sausalito Public Library, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito, CA.  The Administrative Record contains all the information used by the NPS to make its decision on the selection of a cleanup action for Hawk Hill. In compliance with the federal CERCLA program, the CIP serves as a public reference to describe the CERCLA process and activities that NPS plans to undertake for community involvement.

Public Comment Period: The 30-day public comment period begins September 15, 2021 and closes October 15, 2021. The Record of Decision will include a summary that responds to all significant comments received during the comment period.
