COLONIAL BEACH, VA — Kerry Gonzalez was recently chosen as Chief of Cultural Resource Management for George Washington Birthplace National Monument & Thomas Stone National Historic Site, both units of the National Park Service. In this role Kerry will oversee stewardship of a diverse portfolio of resources including archeological, historic structures, and museum collections for both parks.
“Although trained as an archeologist, Kerry has an impressive background in managing a variety of cultural resources and is the perfect person for this position,” says Superintendent Melissa Cobern. “We are delighted to have her on our team.”
Kerry is excited about her new job and is particularly looking forward to using her skills to better understand the cultural landscape at George Washington’s birthplace in the context of the upcoming 300th anniversary of his birth.
“There are so many important but unanswered questions here,” says Kerry. “I look forward to unraveling the mysteries of this place and starting to answer some of those questions.”
