Fort Moultrie is located on Sullivan’s Island near Charleston, SC. Fort Sumter is located on a small island in the mouth to Charleston Harbor and can only be accessed by boat.

 

Audio Description

Audio Description is available for the park film show at Fort Moultrie Visitor Center. Devices can be borrowed from the information desk inside the visitor center.

Audio description is not available for the exhibits within the visitor center.

The park brochure is audio described and is available in text and audio formats on our publications page.

Braille

The main park brochure is available in braille. You can download the braille ready file to print at home or pick a copy of the braille brochure from the information desk at Fort Moultrie Visitor Center or Fort Sumter Visitor Center.

Tactile Exhibits

There are multiple tactile exhibits at both Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter Visitor Centers. These include replicas of items that would have been found in the forts or during the wars the forts served in.

Although there is a tactile model of either fort, the bookstore at Fort Sumter sells a small model replica of the fort.
