Fort Scott National Historic Site consists of a collection of historic structures centered on a manicured parade ground and a gentle trail through a restored tallgrass prairie. While the walkways connecting structures are paved, uneven flagstone in front of the officer's quarters may present some mobility challenges. Ramps are available at the entry to most historic structures, and the museum building features an elevator to the second floor exhibits and video screening room.
Long stretches of hot and sunny weather are not uncommon in the summer months and visitors are encouraged to wear sun protection and use water bottle filling stations located in the visitor center, museum building, and infantry barracks. Virtual Site TourFor guests who are unable to visit Fort Scott in person or cannot use the steep stairways present in some historic structures, we have developed a virtual site tour featuring interactive 360° panoramas of building interiors. Accesible BrochuresAudio descriptions (including transcripts), and a .BRF for Braille readers, of our park brochure are available online. |
