Length: 1.6 miles, loop Crater Lake is glacial lake left behind after the Wisconsin Glacier retreated from this area about twenty-two thousand years ago. This beautiful setting attracted developers and in the mid-1900s, this was a budding vacation community. Today, the Crater Lake Trail loops around the lake through the ridge-top forest. To extend the hike, a half-mile trail connects to the Hemlock Pond Trail and on to Blue Mountain Lake Trail, or hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Because the inner-connecting road traces can be confusing, a trail map is recommended. Other Information: restrooms are located at the trailhead |
