Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park monitors the local heat index (the combination of air temperature and relative humidity, commonly referred to as "Feels like") to ensure the safety of its visitors and staff. On hot summer days, some sites may be closed. Please see the following for park closures during extreme heat.

Feels like 87-90 degrees Fahrenheit:

  • Tours of Slater Mill will be limited to 10 minutes (based on a reading of the heat/humidity inside the mill)

  • Outdoor tours and programs will be modified to reduce heat exposure

Feels like 90-105 degrees Fahrenheit:

  • Tours of Slater Mill will not be offered (based on a reading of the heat/humidity inside the mill)

  • Outdoor tours and programs will be cancelled

Feels like greater than 105 degrees Fahrenheit:

  • All outdoor activities will be suspended until heat index lowers
