Plan Ahead and Prepare

Planning to visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park? Start here.

Entrance Fees
Get an entrance pass before you visit to save time at the entrance station.

Check Park Alerts
Weather or road construction may necessitate temporary closures or delays. Check current conditions for road alerts.

Reservations and Permits
Some campgrounds require reservations; others are first come, first served. Know about park regulations, wilderness permits, where to go, things to do, accessibility, and safety before you arrive: Drive Responsibly
Observe posted speed limits and use pullouts to view scenery or wildlife, take pictures, and let other cars pass. Do not stop your vehicle in the road. Be aware of blind curves. Use caution when roads are snow-covered, icy, or very steep.

Enhance Your Experience
Download the free National Park Service app before you arrive in the park. Information and maps can be downloaded offline and used during your visit.

Prepare for Limited Connectivity
There is limited cell reception across Black Canyon. Some providers have more coverage than others. There is no service within the canyon and emergency satellite messengers may have trouble working.
