Current status: WINTER ROAD
Closed to vehicles for winter beyond South Rim Visitor Center. The road will either be in "winter road status" or "ski trail status".
Winter road status signifies that snow grooming has not occurred. As such, the following activities are permitted: walking, pets on leash, bicycling, snowshoeing, and skiing. Please remember to pick up after your pet.
Once snow grooming occurs, the road will enter ski trail status. As such, the following activities are permitted: skiing, snowshoeing, and walking. Dogs and bicycles are not permitted along the South Rim Drive when the road is groomed as a ski trail.
Please be courteous to other trail users by not snowshoeing or walking in the ski tracks or the flat area groomed for skate skiing along the South Rim Drive. |

Traffic
Between May and October, particularly on busy holiday weekends, you may experience long lines at the entrance station, and parking lots at popular trailheads and viewpoints can fill up.
Climbing Closures
Check annual climbing closures for protection of nesting raptors. These closures are effective March 15 to July 15.
