Diablo East Marina Cove, Scuba Cove, and Walkway Access Are Closed
The Diablo East Marina Cove, Scuba Cove, and walkway access are closed because of the presence of excessive docking material, unsafe walkway and dock, and unstable, loose ground. The area will reopen once these hazards have been corrected.
Only Left Side of Diablo East and Rough Canyon Boat Ramps Are Open - Rest Are Closed
Due to low water levels, only the left side of Diablo East and Rough Canyon boat ramps are open. Please use caution with Spur 406 and Spur 454 launches, as the water may be too shallow to launch most boats. To see a list of open ramps, click on "more." More
Due to the recent illegal lighting of a fire in the trash bin, the theft of government signs, and the unauthorized movement of barricades to drive into an area closed to vehicle traffic, the metal gate at the upper end of Box Canyon has now been closed.
On March 20, 2024, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has designated the International Amistad Reservoir in the Rio Grande basin along the Texas-Mexico border near Del Rio as “infested” with invasive zebra mussels, signifying that an established, reproducing population is present in the lake.
On October 14, 2023, Amistad National Recreation Area archeologist, Jack Johnson, was recognized as Steward of the Year by Shumla Archeological Research and Education Center at their annual Rancher Steward BBQ. Shumla invites to this event landowners and agencies that collaborate with them in fulfilling their mission.
Amistad National Recreation Area will implement a fee increase and online reservation system for group campsite permits beginning October 1, 2022. All other fees will remain the same.
On April 12, Box Canyon boat ramp will be closed because low water levels have created safety concerns. The Diablo East, Rough Canyon Marina low water, Southwinds, and Spur 454 boat ramps remain open.
Amistad National Recreation Area is requesting public comment on a proposal to increase group campsite camping permit fees beginning in 2022. All other fees will remain the same.
Amistad National Recreation Area will not have any closures of campgrounds on Easter weekend, the Visitor Center is going cashless, and use of the dump station at Diablo East is restricted to visitors with camping permits.
Amistad National Recreation Area will now be open seven days per week, including holidays, beginning on Saturday, August 22. The park will be open for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. Most areas will be re-opened, including boat ramps, hiking trails,
campgrounds, the visitor center, and day use areas at Governor’s Landing, Spur 454/San Pedro Cliffs, and Rough Canyon. The Viewpoint Cliffs and Blackbrush Point picnic areas will remain closed.
Effective July 18, 2020, Amistad National Recreation Area will be temporarily closed to all visitors on weekends and holidays until local public health guidance changes.
