Guide Information Registration and Park Entry Protocol

CUA Holders are required to submit Guide names and certifications via the Guide List Form

  • Guides are authorized to operate in the park once their names and certifications have been submitted. Guide cards are no longer a requirement.

  • Guides must possess current certification/training requirements for respective activity categories as shown in the chart below.

  • CPR/First Aid/ Wilderness First Aid/ Wilderness First Responder/ Emergency Medical Technician certification cards anddriver's licenses must be carried at all times while operating in the park (digital copies will suffice).

  • The Park will complete spot checks of guide certifications throughout the year as part of the Administrative and Field Monitoring Plan.

  1. When arriving at entry stations, guides must have the following items/information ready to provide to entrance station rangers.

    • Hard copy of page one of your Commercial Use Authorization

    • Number of clients who are 16 and older

    • Payment/passes for client's entrance fees

  2. Fees and Passes for CUA Operators

    • Guides leading trips or providing staff training do not pay an entrance fee.

    • Guides may not use their personal annual pass to cover entry fees for clients.

    • Clients 16 and older are required to pay $20 per individual Fees & Passes or may use an America The Beautiful Pass (senior, annual pass, military, etc.) to cover their entrance fee.

    • Individual passes can be pre-purchased at Recreation.gov

  • Trip leaders must be certified or recognized Avalanche Course Instructors by the American Institute for Avalanche Research & Education (AAIRE), American Avalanche Association (AAA), Canadian Avalanche Association (CCA) or other Avalanche education organizations. These requirements typically include Avalanche Pro 1 and Avalanche Pro 2 certifications in addition to requisite avalanche science field experience - Required
  • Non-Leader guides must be certified in Avalanche Level 2 or the professional equivalent certification - Required
  • Each guide must have completed an Avalanche Rescue Course - Required
  • Trip leaders must be certified in Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, or higher-level certification - Required
  • Non-Leader guides must be certified in CPR/First Aid - Required
  • Food Handler's Certification - Required if handling food as outlined in the Special Park Conditions
Bicycle Tours
  • CPR and First Aid Certification - Required
  • Food Handler's Certification - Required if handling food as outlined in the Special Park Conditions
  • Environmental Education Test - Recommended
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification - Recommended
Environmental Education Tours
  • CPR and First Aid Certification - Required
