Whiskeytown Lake offers 36 miles of shoreline for boating, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, water skiing, swimming, scuba diving, and fishing. With a full reservoir in the summer, the lake is a perfect spot for aquatic adventures in a beautiful mountain setting.
Water Safety - Life Jacket and Boating License RequirementsBefore heading out on the water, make sure you're familiar with life jacket requirements and boating license regulations. All federal and state boating laws apply to ensure a safe day on the lake for everyone.

Land-Based ActivitiesBeyond the lake, Whiskeytown’s land area provides ample opportunities for birdwatching, camping, picnicking, wildlife viewing, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The landscape extends up to Shasta Bally, reaching an elevation of 6,199 feet, offering beautiful views and diverse ecosystems. Gold Panning & Historic SitesStep back in time at the Tower House Historic District, which dates back to the California Gold Rush. Here, you can experience gold panning, explore interpretive exhibits, and visit the Camden House, built in 1852 and later expanded. Safety & Trail EtiquetteSummer temperatures at Whiskeytown can reach triple digits between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you're planning to hike or explore during these months, it's best to head out early in the morning. Regardless of the season, always bring plenty of water, let someone know where you're going, and stay safe by locking your vehicle and taking valuables with you.
