Explore the history of St. Louis and learn about the important role this river city played in the development of our nation. Afterwards, take a cruise on the Mississippi River, aboard the Gateway Arch Riverboats, and experience the river first-hand. Presentation will take place at the Museum at Gateway Arch National Park and the Gateway Arch Riverboats. The workshop is free. The cost for the Gateway Arch River Cruise TBD.

This field trip packet includes three seasonal visits to the park, as well as in-class lessons which encourage students to gain a broad perspective of the park. Students will design a symbol or badge to represent Weir Farm National Historical Park using the National Park Service Arrowhead as a model and use their newfound knowledge of their local national park as inspiration.

Take Me to the River is a hands-on educational program designed for fourth graders run out of Hidden Falls Regional Park each fall. The program focuses primarily on the cultural history of the river, but also addresses geography, geology, and physical science through hands-on activities. Students rotate through three activity stations led by National Park Service rangers including orienteering, geocaching, shelter-building, and fire-building.

Can You Identify Me?

Students will have the opportunity to study and identify fish as really wildlife biologists. They will watch clips taken of salmon swimming up stream through the Silver Salmon Weir in Lake Clark National Park. Their job will be to use their identification cards and see how many salmon they can identify as they swim past. Be careful -- some salmon look awfully similar!
