Amazing Animals
Animal Adaptations

Students explore structures animals have that function to help them survive. On the pre-trip, an instructor dresses up to illustrate the amazing adaptations of this animal. On the field trip, students design and test their own beaver dams. They compare their eyesight to raptors. And, they explore adaptations that help mountain lions hunt and deer avoid being caught.

Join us to learn about the most important inhabitants of Zion Canyon - the animals! This program will introduce students to a variety of animals, from the night-loving ringtail to the spiky horned lizard. Youth will learn about the adaptations that allow these animals to thrive in Zion, and the diversity of landscape that creates habitats for such a variety of animals. (30 minutes)

Badlands National Park protects 244,000 acres of mixed-grass prairie habitat and the wild animals that live in it. Prairie vegetation is mostly grasses--find out why. Then take a look at some of the wildlife (including bison, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets) that have adaptations that allow them to thrive in the prairie environment. Students participating in the in-class program may see and touch animal pelts, complete a puzzle, or complete a craft.
