Essential Question
What is the distance to the SC Revolutionary War parks of Kings Mountain, Cowpens, and Ninety Six, that are a part of the National Park system?
Objective
Students will be able to calculate distance, time to travel, and gas mileage to the local national parks associated with the revolution.
Background
Students will need an understanding of maps.
Preparation
Teacher will provide maps of both present day SC and a revolutionary map to students and this will enhance students understanding of the mini unit on the NPS.
Materials
Lesson Hook/Preview
Teacher will show several videos of special events at both Kings Mountain National Military Park and Cowpens National Battlefield.
Procedure
Step one:
Students will locate the following National Parks on a SC Map: Kings Mountain, Cowpens, and Ninety Six.
Step two:
Students will use Google maps to calculate distance, driving time, and then calculate gas and cost to visit the park from their home.

The students will pair and will have their material reviewed and verified by their peers.Supports for Struggling Learners
Student will be partnered with a buddy.
Enrichment Activities
The student that excels can be paired with a buddy who is possibly struggling with calculations and estimations
