Essential Question
How can students explain the victorious events and contributions of the leaders and military units in the Battle of Cowpens using a modern social media twist?
Objective
Students will be able to show understanding of the events that took place at the Battle of Cowpens.
Background
After a refresher discussion and review of the Battle of Cowpens. Discuss with the class the use of Social Media and how it can be used to spread interest concerning particular topics and places. Then discuss pictures and their correct context.
Cowpens is the location of the battle between Brigadier General Daniel Morgan and Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton’s British Legion on January 17, 1781. Cowpens is known as the turning point of the revolution in the South because the British turned their attention south in the hopes of benefiting from the number of loyalists in the area. The victory, which was one with a misunderstanding of retreat which led to a battle-winning double envelopment, would set in motion a chain of events that would lead to a patriot victory at Yorktown.
Preparation
The teacher will download and/or print pictures for students to hashtag descriptions of items, people, places associated with the Battle of Cowpens.
Materials
Lesson Hook/Preview

Procedure
After hook and discussion/review, the teacher will share Pictures for students to #hashtag.
Once students have developed #hashtags they will then briefly give reason why. They will then be allowed to share #hashtags.
