Procedure
Background Information:
The Game of Life, also known simply as Life, is a board game originally created in 1860 by Milton Bradley, as The Checkered Game of Life. Bradley’s game did not include dice, but instead a teetotum, a six sided top (dice were considered too similar to gambling). The game board was essentially a modified checkerboard the object was to land on the “good” spaces and collect 100 points. A player could gain fifty points toward this goal by reaching “Happy Old Age” in the far corner, opposite “Infancy” where one began.
We have used this original design as inspiration for our version of the game, Louisiana Life. On this board, travel throughout events and fun facts about Louisiana History as you aim to reach 50 points, then win by getting your final 50 points at the creation of Cane River Creole NHP.
How to play:
- You will use a dice to determine the order in which you play. The person with the highest number will go first. All players will begin on the square labeled “START”.
- Roll the dice to determine your roll. You may move in any ONE direction (up, down, sideways, and diagonal) UNLESS you land on a space with a hand. If you land on a space with a hand, you must go in that direction on your next turn (even if you cannot complete the turn).
- The object of the game is to reach 50 points and then move to the “50” square and get rewarded the last 50 points. When you land on any square with writing, read it aloud to the group. Your group will find out information about Louisiana.
- Keep tally of your points on a scrap piece of paper.
