    With generous support from the Friends of Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters, Inc., the National Park Service proudly announces the completion of a suite of museum collection conservation projects in the Longfellow House study. This historic room is the heart of the Longfellow House; it served as General George Washington's meeting/dining room in the early days of the American Revolution and later as poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s creative workspace, where he penned many of his best-known works.

    The National Park Service announces the 2024 public season at Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site, a free destination for groundbreaking history, contemporary poetry and music, and family activities.

    Texas White House Complex to Close for Rehabilitation

    Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is excited to announce that the construction phase of the Texas White House Rehabilitation Project, funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) and Repair and Rehabilitation funds, will begin January 2, 2024. Visitors can continue to walk the grounds of the Texas White House Complex daily until park closing at 5:00 pm on December 31, 2023 at which time the Complex will close to the public for the duration of the project. Affected structures include the Texas White House, Hangar Visitor Center, and Lockheed JetStar.

This year, guests of all ages are invited to celebrate children’s joy around the holidays and to embrace the playful spirit of the season amid the decked historic halls of the Longfellow House.

    The National Park Service (NPS) today transmitted the James K. Polk Presidential Home Special Resource Study (SRS) to Congress, concluding that the 11th president’s Columbia, Tennessee residence and adjacent property meet three of four criteria for potential inclusion in the National Park System.
