The NPS has many partners to assist local preservation. Successful projects require planning and collaboration. Working with other partners and programs can assist any community. The list of organizations below represents a few of our partners who may be able to provide you with additional support.

National Alliance of Preservation Commissions

A national membership organization, National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC) supports local historic preservation commissions and the historic resources they help protect. NAPC’s mission is to provide educational and training programs to the dedicated volunteers and municipal staff who serve on and support local preservation. NAPC’s Forum, its bi-annual conference, is dedicated solely to local preservation issues.

National Main Street Center

Established in 1980, the National Main Street Center works with a nationwide network of communities to encourage preservation-based economic revitalization, and has participated in the renewal of more than 2,000 older commercial districts during its 30-year history. As a nonprofit organization, the center provides information, holds conferences and workshops, and conducts research and advocacy on critical revitalization issues.

National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers

The National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO) acts as a membership and communication vehicle among the SHPOs and their staffs and represents the SHPOs with federal agencies and national preservation organizations. NCSHPO is also the place to find your State Office’s contact information.

National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers

The National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO) supports tribes and tribal governments in efforts to preserve their heritage and traditional cultural practices. The organization also works closely with the Tribal Historic Preservation Program of the National Park Service.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP), established in 1949, focuses on high profile preservation priorities, court cases, and cross-cutting preservation issues of importance to the saving of historic places and the growth of the preservation movement in America. This national nonprofit membership organization plays an important role in issues at a national level through policy, research, advocacy, and outreach.
