Sounds of the Arctic

Once the plane that drops you off at Walker Lake is gone, all you will hear are natural sounds.

The natural sounds present in wilderness are part of an interconnecting system of resources that wildlife depends on for survival and visitors enjoy as part of the national park experience. Alaska’s soundscapes program collects natural sound recordings in parks (for example, listen to a grizzly bear sow and her cubs in Noatak National Preserve) and identifies noise intrusions or relative levels of quiet in park acoustic environments.
