Seasons

With four distinct seasons, Shenandoah National Park can seem like a new and exciting place each and every month. Although best known for its vibrant fall foliage, the Park is no less spectacular (and a lot less crowded) in the spring, when wildflowers and trees are in full bloom. Summer brings lush greens, and Shenandoah's elevation provides welcome relief from the hot valley temperatures below. That same elevation difference can bring dramatic changes in winter; when surrounding lowlands are experiencing rain, the Park can be blanketed in snow and ice. The clear skies and bare trees of winter, however, also provide magnificent vistas and rewarding wildlife viewing. Select a season below to explore specific information and weather for every time of year.
