Size: 7-8” Description: Mostly orange with a black head, black and white wings, and a thick beak. Females and juveniles are paler overall and have white streaks on face and neck. Migratory Status: Summer residents of Rocky Mountain National Park. Habitat: Breed in ponderosa pine, aspen and foothill riparian forests to 8,000 feet. Diet: Forage in the understory and canopy, and eat seeds, berries and a wide variety of insects including beetles and snails.
