Accessibility

Welcome to Prince William Forest Park

We hope the following information will be useful in planning your visit. We are continually working to upgrade facilities for accessibility and to improve park access for all visitors. Currently, starting in February 2024, we are working on rehabilitating the playground in Pine Grove Picnic Area to be accessible for all. While not all facilities are fully accessible, park rangers are happy to assist any visitor with special needs. For any specific inquiries about accessiblity, please contact the park via email or by calling 703-221-7181.

Facilities

The visitor center is accessible by ramp, and parking areas in the park have reserved parking for visitors who are handicapped. The restrooms, exhibit area, bookstore, information desk and water-bottle filling station are wheelchair-accessible with mostly level, paved walkways leading between them. Braille copies of the park brochure are available at the information desk upon request. Some exhibits in the museum area of the visitor center are tactile, including a large 3D topographical map of the park.

Oak Ridge Campground has several accessible campsites, and the restroom located in B-loop is mostly wheelchair-accessible (complete with shower facilities). The amphitheater is wheelchair-accessible along a wide, long crushed gravel trail. Rangers sometimes present programs here during the summer.

Turkey Run Ridge Campground has a restroom and parking areas that are wheelchair-accessible. The campsites are mostly level with packed dirt and small roots.

Cabin Camp 1 has a craft lodge and sleeping cabin buildings in D loop that have ramps leading up to them, making them wheelchair-accessible along a roughly paved and gravel walkway from the dining hall area.

Access Passes

The America the Beautiful - Access Pass is a free lifetime pass for entrance to all federal parks, monuments, and recreation areas. It also provides a 50% reduction of camping fees (not including concessionaires). The America the Beautiful - Access Pass is issued to United States citizens and permanent residents who have a permanent disability. Inquire at the park visitor center or online at USGS.gov (processing fees apply if obtained through USGS).

Service Animals

Service animals are permitted in all areas of the park that visitors are permitted. For a definition of a service animal, please see the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) definition. Please note that pets whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted inside park buildings. Additional information about service animals in National Park Service sites is also available.

Please visit the pets section for more information about bringing non-service pets to the park.

American Sign Language Interpretation

American Sign Language interpretation is available by request. This service is free of charge. There is a ranger on staff who can sign. Please call 410-823-1309 to make arrangements for an interpreter. Requests must be received no less than 14 days prior to your visit.
