Desert View Watchtower

Desert View Watchtower Retail Store (View Room) is open daily: 8 am to 6 pm. The upper floors of the tower are open, when staffing allows, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The last tower access is at 5:00 pm, with the stairs closed for the day at 5:30 pm. A ticket system admits 25 people with a 20-minute time limit. A National Historic Landmark, the Watchtower was constructed in 1932.The design by Mary Colter is based on Ancestral Puebloan architecture found in the southwest.
Defiance House Archeological Site

Defiance House Archeological Site is a set of Ancestral Puebloan structures, petroglyphs, and pictographs tucked into a corner of Forgotten Canyon on lake Powell. It is only accessible by boat and then a hike. Conditions of the hike are not monitored, so we do not know if it is too muddy to go there today. There are no amenities at the site, take care of your needs before you arrive. Visit with respect.
Tusayan Pueblo Site and Self-Guiding Trail

The Tusayan Pueblo site and self-guiding trail are CLOSED - SEASON OVER. Located 3 miles (4.8km) west of Desert View Watchtower, the site is a small Ancestral Puebloan village showing the outlines of rooms and a round kiva. Visitors can walk a relatively flat 0.1 mile (200 m) self-guiding trail around the site. The adjacent museum is CLOSED until further notice.

Open daily, 9 am to 5 pm, historic Hopi House, located right on the rim of Grand Canyon, has been offering authentic American Indian arts and crafts for over 100 years, and also carries many other items for sale. The structure was completed in 1905 and is a large, multi-story building of stone masonry, constructed as a replica of a Hopi pueblo, Hopi House was originally designed to house the main sales rooms for Fred Harvey Indian Arts gallery and shop.

Cliff Palace Overlook is a magnificent view point for Cliff Palace, the largest cliff dwelling in the park. With at least 150 rooms and 21 kivas, Cliff Palace is an exceptionally large cliff dwelling and possibly an important gathering place as an administrative center with ceremonial use for many nearby Ancestral Pueblo villages.
Chetro Ketl

Located 4 1/2 miles from the Visitor Center on the 9-mile Canyon Loop Drive. The trail through Chetro Ketl is ½ mile, roundtrip. It is graveled, and climbs several short, steep rises, so assistance is recommended for people using wheel chairs. Chetro Ketl is the second largest Chacoan great house. It covers more than 3 acres and contains a great kiva and elevated kivas.

Located 2 miles from the visitor on the 9-mile loop drive. Hungo Pavi is an unexcavated Chacoan great house (monumental public building) containing over 150 rooms, a great kiva, and an enclosed plaza. It is a good example of what Chacoan sites look like without excavations--covered with a protective blanket of wind-blown sand and native vegetation. Travel in small groups to lessen our impacts to this fragile site.

Ancestral Pueblo Site

Long before the Manhattan Project came to the Pajarito Plateau, the Ancestral Pueblo people lived in the area. Two to three families of Tewa-speaking people likely occupied this Pueblo around 1225. It would have included bedrooms, kitchens, storage rooms, and a semi-circular kiva used for ceremonies and meetings. The Pueblo is part of the Los Alamos History Museum campus.
Aztec West Audio Tour: The Center

The fourth cultural story of the Aztec West self-guided audio tour. The trail through the Aztec West great house is 0.5 mile in length and requires about 40 minutes to complete using the audio tour. Most of the trail is paved and accessible to wheelchairs, with some steps and low doorways. Wheelchairs are available at the visitor center to borrow upon request.
