The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board served as an agent of harassment for LGB servicemen and the establishments they patronized. As raids and arrests continued, many LGB people fought to protect the few places they felt safe. Local bars and clubs admonished by the AFDCB, became unintentional epicenters for this fight.

On the right side of the memorial core, Eisenhower as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II is commemorated by a bronze heroic-sized statue with sculptures of his soldiers inspired by the famous photograph with the 101st Airborne Division before their jump into France. Hermits Rest Bus Stop - Hermits Rest (Red) Route

NO BUS SERVICE on Hermit Road during December, January and February. The final shuttle stop on the Hermit Road (Red) Route, where shuttle buses turn around and begin their return trip back to the Village, Hermits Rest provides access to the only water bottle filling station along Hermit Road, restrooms, a snack bar, gift shop, Hermit Trail, the western end of the Rim Trail, and beautiful canyon views.

Located on Village Loop Road and just east of Bright Angel Lodge, this shuttle stop offers quick access to the canyon rim. Thunderbird and Kachina lodges (guest rooms) and Bright Angel Lodge (including Fred Harvey Burger, Bright Angel Coffee Bar and Fountain). A reliable supply of drinking water for the garrison was a priority at Fort Washington. Three wells dug early in the fort's construction proved inadequate. By 1823, four cisterns were installed to store rainwater. Located underground at each end of the barracks and officers' quarters, these cisterns had a total capacity of 19,000 gallons.

Mifflin’s role in America’s founding was important, including his work in politics and as a military leader. Mifflin was elected to state legislature and to the Continental Congress prior to the war. He went on to serve as quartermaster general during the Revolutionary War, providing necessary supplies to the Continental Army. After the war, Mifflin served in the Constitutional Convention and then as the first governor of Pennsylvania.

Phase One, a women’s bar, opened here in 1970. The bar was one of the few women-centric establishments within the District’s gay and lesbian nightlife scene. When it closed in January 2016, Phase One had earned the distinction of being one of the oldest continuously-operating women’s bars in the United States. The Up Stairs Lounge Fire was an unsolved arson fire at a gay bar in New Orleans on June 24, 1973. With 32 dead, it was the worst mass murder of homosexual Americans in 20th century America.
