Dive deeper into the history of Grand Teton National Park. Interpretive signs introduce topics like the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, grizzly bear research, geologic forces and features, glaciers, and the Hayden Survey. A large bronze tactile relief map will help orient you in relation to where you are in the park. Different peaks, canyons, lakes, falls, and other park features are labeled throughout the map.

RV Dump Station

This RV Dump Station is typically open spring - fall, closing for the season when overnight temperatures fall below freezing. The dump station is located at the south end of North Campground and can be used by any visitor for a $5 use fee. No use fee applies for those with a campground reservation in the park. Potable water is available.

The Skinners Falls River Access is a public river access for the Delaware River located near Milanville, PA adjacent to the Skinners Falls Bridge. It is owned by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. This is a canoe/kayak access only. Please note the Skinners Falls Bridge is closed to all traffic at this time.

To learn the story of Pelagia (also spelled Palakia) Melgenak is to learn the sanctity of shared traditions, the loving bonds of kinship and the reverence of a spiritual connection to the land around you. Born in the late 1870s in the remote village of Savonoski in Alaska, Pelagia grew up learning about hunting, gathering, navigating and guiding in the area. That all changed in 1912 with the hot ash falling like a blanket covering the region with the eruption of Novarupta.

The Sinking of the SMS Cormoran and the First US Shots of World War I

On December 13, 1914, the German auxiliary cruiser SMS Cormoran, out of fuel and cut off from Germany by World War I, took refuge from Japanese warships in Guam. The ship spent the next two years interned in Apra Harbor. When the United States declared war on Germany in 1917, the Cormoran's captain blew up the ship rather than let her fall into enemy hands.

In the fall of 1861 after the Battle of Port Royal, the US military came ashore around Beaufort and found thousands of now formerly enslaved people in control of the region. The military had no real plan yet for what to do with these people or even their legal status. Newly freed Black South Carolinians were active participants. They demanded access to programs to support labor reforms, land redistribution, quality education, and military service.

The Abyss Bus Stop - Hermits Rest (Red) Route

NO BUS SERVICE during December, January and February. The Abyss shuttle bus stop is outbound only, to Hermits Rest. At the Abyss Overlook, impressive canyon views are rivaled by the 3,000 foot (914 m) vertical drop below you. This stop offers a unique place to discover how gravity can profoundly affect the shape of the canyon walls.
