Before Shirley Graham married W.E.B. Du Bois in 1951, she had earned a national reputation as a playwright, composer, conductor, director, and author. Born to a A.M.E. minister and a European mother, Graham was raised to appreciate Black culture and music. From a young age, her parents instilled in her the importance of social justice and the uplift of the Black Community. For her lifelong dedication, we honor her as an ancestor.

Canyon Village Market & Deli is located in Market Plaza, across the parking lot from Yavapai Lodge and next to the US Post Office. The Market/General Store is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. The Deli is open daily from 7 am to 6:30 pm. (spring hours) A large selection of groceries and souvenirs are available, along with outdoor gear for campers and backpackers.

Located at Market Plaza, the South Rim's business center, the main lodge has a cafeteria style restaurant, coffee shop/cafe, gift shop and an outdoor patio tavern with a food menu. Pet friendly rooms are available. it's a short walk across the parking lot to Canyon Village Market (General Store and Deli), and the U.S. Post Office. From the lodge, it averages around a one mile (1.6 km) walk, along paved footpaths, to the edge of Grand Canyon.

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive

No visit to Sleeping Bear Dunes is complete without spending time on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Enjoy spectacular views of Glen Lake, undulating sand dunes, and breathtaking views of the grandest of all dunes, with shimmering Lake Michigan as the backdrop. Stopping at all twelve points on the 7.4-mile Scenic Drive will take about two hours.

The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board served as an agent of harassment for LGB servicemen and the establishments they patronized. As raids and arrests continued, many LGB people fought to protect the few places they felt safe. Local bars and clubs admonished by the AFDCB, became unintentional epicenters for this fight.

On the right side of the memorial core, Eisenhower as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II is commemorated by a bronze heroic-sized statue with sculptures of his soldiers inspired by the famous photograph with the 101st Airborne Division before their jump into France. Behind the sculptures is a bas relief depicting the Normandy landings on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
