Martin Van Buren NHS is closed for the season.
The house, Lindenwald, and the Visitor Center will reopen in May/June of 2025.
There are no services available.
The park grounds are open for visitation from 7 am to dusk.
Park grounds are open year round from 7:00 am to sunset. Visitor facilities and tours of the president's home are offered on a seaonal basis: check our Operating Hours & Seasons page for our current park hours.
The weather at Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is typical of the northeast United States; it varies considerably throughout the year. Always check the forecast prior to your visit and dress accordingly. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
There are no fees to enter Martin Van Buren National Historic Site or to tour President Van Buren's home. Visitors must, however, register for a tour of the house by checking in and signing up at the visitor center.
The Visitor Center and Lindenwald are open for the season beginning May 24, 2024.
The visitor center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., seven days a week.
Tours are available hourly from 10:00 a.m., with the last tour at 3:00 p.m.
You must sign up for a tour at the visitor center. Sign-up opens a half hour before the tour begins.
The walking trails and site are open from 7 a.m. to dusk.
Both the visitor center and Lindenwald, Martin Van Buren's home, are open seasonally. Please check our current facility hours and tour times when planning your visit.
Please note that access to Lindenwald is available through
guided tour only.
Guided House tours of the Full House (basement, main floor and second floor) begin promptly on the hour at 10 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.
Guided House tours of the Main Floor begin promptly on the hour at 11 am and Noon. *Lindenwald (the historic house) is not air conditioned and in the event of high heat, tours may be cancelled or shortened.
There is no charge to walk the grounds which is available year round from 7:00 a.m. to sunset. Pick up a brochure and site bulletin in the parking lot and follow the three quarter-mile wayside loop to learn more about the founder of the Democratic Party.
Visitor Center
The park's visitor center is located across Old Post Road from the visitor parking lot, and is open seasonally. Check in there first to learn about programs and sign up for tours of the Lindenwald mansion.

Pets
Pets are welcome at Martin Van Buren NHS, but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. The park grounds are open for recreation, such as dog walking, from 7:00 AM to sunset year round. Remember, please clean up after your pet.
Pets of any kind, except for service animals, are not permitted inside any historic structure or other building.
Remember: NEVER leave your pet in a closed vehicle in the parking lot.
Permits & Reservations
Special uses of the park, like weddings or commercial filming, require permits. Picnic tables may be used for free on a first-come, first-serve basis. Schools and organized groups may reserve guided tours of the historic site. Click for film permits
Goods & Services
Just north of the park the villages of Kinderhook and Valatie offer dining, shopping, gas, and other commercial services. Additional goods and services may be found in the city of Hudson, ten miles south of the park .
