Managing Lava Beds is an effort shared by park staff and the public. This portion of the park website is to provide the public with information regarding planning and management issues at the park.

 

Superintendent's Compendium

The Superintendent's Compendium is the summary of park specific rules implemented under Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations (36 CFR). It serves as public notice, identifies areas closed for public use, provides a list of activities requiring a special use permit or reservation, and elaborates on public use and resource protection regulations pertaining specifically to the administration of Lava Beds National Monument.

Temporary Closure Orders, Restrictions and Public Use Limits:

Closure Order # 24-008 - Effective November 7, 2025, the below Closure Order 24-007, has been rescindeded. - Both loops of Captain Jacks Stronghold are now open.

Closure Order # 24-007 - Effective October 10, 2024 the Short Trail at Captain Jacks Stronghold is closed due to Mt Lion activity.
