Restrictions
  • All areas within Lava Beds National Monument are closed to the lighting or maintaining of a fire, including within the agency‑approved fire receptacles in Indian Well Campground.
  • All open‑flame devices that use combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, pellets, or biomass are prohibited.
Exceptions
  • Use of gas or pressurized stoves (propane, butane, white gas, or similar) is permitted, provided the device has an integrated shut‑off valve that allows the flame to be extinguished immediately.

Notice: This administrative order applies to all individuals subject to the regulatory authority of the National Park Service (NPS) within the boundaries of Lava Beds National Monument, including park visitors, government employees, concession employees, park residents and stakeholders.

Finding: The NPS issues this administrative order for the purposes of maintaining public health and safety during a period of high fire danger. Lava Beds is currently experiencing elevated fire conditions caused by extreme drought, high temperatures, low relative humidity, and critically dry fuels.
