The park offers a FREE Junior Ranger booklet for families to complete together. Upon completion children receive an official Junior Ranger Badge. Stop by the Calumet Visitor Center or Park Headquarters to pick one up. Be sure to call ahead or check the Operating Hours & Seasons page for current operating hours.

Many of the Keweenaw Heritage Sites also offer attractions and activities for kids during the summer.

 

Junior Ranger Program

You can download the book or request that a copy be mailed to you. Once you have finished the book, you can bring it with you when you visit the park or mail it in to receive your badge.

 

Copper Country Scavanger Hunt

Explore the Keweenaw Heritage Sites in a fun way! Download the book here. After completing clues for the required number of sites in a specific region, show your answers to any site in that region. If you meet the requirements, you will receive a collectable sticker!

 

Junior Angler Fishing Events

Calling all Junior Rangers!

Keweenaw National Historical Park and park partners host a series of fun and interactive Junior Angler events during summer months. These Junior Angler programs give junior rangers from our diverse communities a chance to learn new fishing skills, explore the mining history and natural resources of the area, and protect these sites for future generations.

The Junior Angler events include:

• Fish with a Ranger days

• Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby

• Fishing discovery education programs

• Junior Angler fishing day camps

Kids in Parks

National parks are great places to explore anything kids can imagine. Go on an outdoor adventure. Walk in the footsteps of famous people. Take in unique scenery. Explore new interests. Experience real places you may have only heard about. But most of all, national parks are places where you can have fun and create memories that last a lifetime.

Calling all 4th Graders!

Every Kid Outdoors allows U.S. fourth graders and family members free access to over 2,000 federal lands and waters so you can discover our wildlife, resources, and history. Every Kid Outdoors creates crucial connections to public lands and inspires a future generation of stewards for America's spectacular national parks and other public lands.

To obtain a pass, fourth grade students can visit the bilingual Every Kid Outdoors website, participate in a short educational activity, and then download a paper voucher to print and bring with them to visit public lands and waters all across the country.

Every Kid Outdoors begins each year on September 1 and goes through August 31. Visit Every Kid Outdoors and get your free fourth grade pass today.

Park Fun

There are numerous ways that kids of all ages can have fun at Keweenaw National Historical Park. During the summer, park rangers offer guided walks and junior ranger programs. You can also visit our partners know as Keweenaw Heritage Sites. You may be able to talk with a solider at Fort Wilkins during the 1840s, go for a hike in the Porcupine Mountains, explore a farm site at Hanka Homestead, visit a lighthouse at Eagle Harbor or ride a train at the Hough County Historical Museum in Lake Linden.

Occasionally, the park, our partners or surrounding communities host special events often with activities geared for kids. They may be ski or bike races, heritage celebrations, musical or theatrical performances, competitions or art shows. Check the Schedule of Events page for more information.
