Let's Go Fishing!

Calling all Junior Rangers!

Keweenaw National Historical Park and park partners host a series of fun and interactive Junior Angler events during summer months. These Junior Angler programs give junior rangers from our diverse communities a chance to learn new fishing skills, explore the mining history and natural resources of the area, and protect these sites for future generations.

The Junior Angler events include:

  • Fish with a Ranger days

  • Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby

  • Fishing discovery education programs

  • Junior Angler fishing day camps

2nd Annual Junior Angler Fishing Camps

June 28th & 29th, 2024

The Calumet Keweenaw Sportsmen's Club, in partnership with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Keweenaw National Historical Park, and the National Park Foundation are hosting a series of one-day fishing camps for children 16 years old or younger.

These fun and free, one day camps will introduce aspiring young anglers to fishing and also provide them with a brief glimpse of the history of the Keweenaw. Each day camp will begin at the Keweenaw National Historical Park's Visitor Center where they will be introduced to the park.

Camps will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and include indoor/outdoor instruction, lunch, and a guided historical tour.

19th Annual Kid's Fishing Derby

Saturday, July 20th

  • Presented by the Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsmen's Club
  • Free family event for children 16 years and younger
  • Great fun and lots of prixes
  • Fishing equipment and bait provided for participants if needed
  • Prizes for the largest bluegill, perch, bullhead, and smallest fish
  • Time: Registration opens at 9:00 am with fishing from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.
    • Announcements of winners, bike raffle, and lunch will follow at noon.
  • Location: Swedetown Pond, 56641 Osceola Road, Calumet
