  • Programs and Tours

    • Ranger programs geared towards visitors with cognitive or intellectual disabilities are available upon request.
  • Waysides

    • Waysides have approximately a ninth grade reading level of text.
  • Visitor Center

    • Bulletin boards and exhibits have approximately a fifth grade reading level of text.
    • There are no designated quiet spaces away from crowds. However, there are benches outside the facility that can offer a respite from the facility. In the event of an emergency, the fire alarm is quite loud.

Chalmette Battlefield

  • Programs and Tours

    • Ranger programs geared towards visitors with cognitive or intellectual disabilities are available upon request.
  • Waysides

    • Waysides have approximately a seventh grade reading level of text.
  • Visitor Center

    • Two films are available for showing.
    • There are tactile objects available in the visitor center, such as cannon balls, animal furs, and a spinning wheel.
    • Bulletin boards have approximately a second grade reading level of text.
    • There are no designated quiet spaces away from crowds. In the film shown at the Visitor Center, there are explosion sounds. During scheduled black powder demonstrations, there are loud explosion sounds. To see our schedule for demonstrations, visit our Calendar. In the event of an emergency, the fire alarm is quite loud.

French Quarter Visitor Center

    • There is a sensory-friendly drum circle once a month. Please check our Calendar for more information and updates.
  • Visitor Center

    • The Visitor Center has one film available.
    • There is a kiosk of videos related to the Mississippi River.
    • There are tactile objects in the visitor center available for touch, such as drums.
    • Exhibits have approximately a sixth grade reading level of text.
    • There are no designated quiet spaces away from crowds; however, the courtyard is usually a quiet space with seating. To see our schedule for demonstrations, visit our Calendar. In the event of an emergency, the fire alarm is quite loud.

Acadian Cultural Center

  • Programs and Tours

    • All ranger programs strive to engage multiple sense and learning styles. Ranger programs geared towards visitors with cognitive or intellectual disabilities are available upon request.

  • Visitor Center

    • The Visitor Center has one film (Echoes of Acadie, 35 minutes) available.
    • There are tactile objects in the visitor center available for touch upon request at the front desk, such animal furs and musical instruments.
    • Exhibits have approximately a high school reading level of text.
    • There are no designated quiet spaces away from crowds; however, the lobby and front walkway have seating. In the event of an emergency, the fire alarm is quite loud. There may be loud noises in the film, such as a gunshot.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center

  • Programs and Tours

    • The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is currently closed. However, programming is offered off-site. Check our Current Conditions page for more information and updates.
    • The center offers a variety of programming, such as music performances and cooking demonstrations. To see our current schedule of events, see our Calendar.

Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center

  • Visitor Center

    • Exhibits have approximately a fifth grade reading level of text.
    • The Gumbo Room has a variety of tactile objects. Ask a ranger for more information.
    • The center's front desk has a list of films available for showing.
    • There are no designated quiet spaces away from crowds. In the event of an emergency, the fire alarm is quite loud. There may be loud noises from the floor above the visitor center. However, there are benches in the hallway, craftroom, Gumbo Room, and boat dock that can offer a respite from the facility.
