South Louisiana’s National Parks Increase Access

New Orleans, LA – Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is increasing access. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.


Beginning the week of November 9th, the following visitor centers will be open to the public with modified operating hours and operations:

  • Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, 8606 West St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette

    • Gates open 9AM - 4PM,7 days a week (9:30AM - 3:30PM on federal holidays)

    • Visitor Center open Fri-Sun 10AM- 2:30PM

  • Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Headquarters and French Quarter Visitor Center, 419 Decatur Street, New Orleans

    • Open Thu-Sat 10AM – 4PM

    • Please note that the restrooms at this location are closed, pending repairs.

    • This site will also host operations for New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park until further notice; please visit www.nps.gov/jazz for details.

The following facilities remain closed:

  • Acadian Cultural Center, 501 Fisher Road, Lafayette

  • Barataria Preserve, 6588 Barataria Boulevard, Marrero

  • Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 West Park Avenue, Eunice

  • Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, 314 St Mary St, Thibodaux
