The Battle of New Orleans has been commemorated by Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve for many years. Although this page does not include all of that history, please see below for the ways the park commemorated the Battle of New Orleans in recent years.
Event Schedule for 2022:
Saturday, January 8th
10:00 a.m. Wreath Laying Ceremony
The annual wreath-laying ceremony at Chalmette Monument featured speakers, as well as an artillery firing honoring those who fought at the Battle of New Orleans. Free.
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Black Powder/Living History demonstrations
Living history volunteers and students from Chalmette High’s JROTC program Recognizing Our Roots dressed as civilians and troops from 1815 while they shared their stories, fired cannons and muskets, setup a historical camp to demonstrate cooking and crafts, and explained the importance of the battle in American history. Black powder demonstrations started after the wreath laying ceremony. Muskets fired on the hour and cannons on the half hour, with the exception of no cannon fire at 12:30. Free.
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Visitor Center was open during special hours for this event.
Sunday, January 9th
11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Black Powder/Living History demonstrations

All above activities took place at Chalmette Battlefield, 8606 West St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette, LA.
Event Parking:
Parking at the battlefield was limited to wheelchair handicapped parking only. All others proceded to the National Cemetery where they were directed to park. Visitors walked along the Battlefield Loop Road to the battlefield side (reading exhibits on the way), or caught a ride on one of our golf cart shuttles.

There was no public parking available at the Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery on Friday, 1/6, or Saturday, 1/7. Public parking was available at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex (8201 W Judge Perez Dr., Chalmette, LA 70043), and there was free shuttles.
Sunday: limited parking was available for the general public at the two parking areas closest to the entrance gates on Battlefield Road. Parking at the Visitor Center was reserved for speakers and special guests for the wreath laying ceremony.

Event Parking:
There was no public parking available at the Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery on Friday, 1/5, or Saturday, 1/6.
Public parking was available at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex (8201 W Judge Perez Dr., Chalmette, LA 70043), and there were free shuttles.
Shuttle Schedule
Free shuttles ran continuously between the parking area and Chalmette Battlefield.
The first shuttle left the parking area at 9:15 a.m. on Friday and Saturday
The last shuttle left the parking area at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
The last shuttle left the battlefield at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
Ride Share Drop Off
Only shuttles and buses authorized by St. Bernard Parish and the NPS could drop off and pick up passengers at Chalmette Battlefield on Friday and Saturday.
Monday Parking
